While New York City’s newest mayor Bill de Blasio went for a low-key look at his inaguration yesterday (black topcoat, white button-up, red tie), some of the other notable men in the crowd used the cold weather as a chance to flex their sartorial muscles, as it were. Scarves were the accessory of the day—both utilitarian and a nice way to add a touch of color and pattern to the proceedings. Both Bill Clinton and de Blasio’s son Dante wore plaid to set themselves apart while Governor Andrew Cuomo went with a more subtle paisley, and outgoing mayor Michael Bloomberg wore a scarf that was emblazoned with—what else?—the city’s motto: I ♥ New York.
