Begone, newscaster coifs! See you later, polished waves! If there was ever a time to herald the official death of the blowout, it was at this afternoon’s Louis Vuitton 2017 Resort presentation, held in the steamy city of Rio de Janeiro. From the first glimpse of the show’s opening model, the message was loud and clear, with each girl wearing free-falling hair that celebrated the charms of a little natural kink and frizz.
Catwalkers Maartje Verhoef and Harleth Kuusik presented a case for finger-combed, windblown vacation hair, which fell softly around their faces. And those on the curly front benefited from the volumizing bigger-is-better effect of Rio’s high humidity: Natalie Westling’s Pre-Raphaelite mane made a boisterous exit, while Selena Forrest’s full-bodied tresses bounced seductively down the runway, and Mica Arganaraz’s bad-girl shag looked that much cooler for having been left virtually untouched by backstage hairstylist Paul Hanlon.
The lesson here? Lose the blow-dryer and chuck the diffuser. Like a vacation, your hair deserves a break, too.
