We’d like to interrupt our regular Fashion Week programming to congratulate one Jenny McCarthy on her recent nuptials to Donnie Wahlberg. Long before McCarthy became Mrs. Wahlberg, she was the very face of singledom as the host of MTV’s Singled Out, where her wit, contagious smile, golden blowout, and ever-visible six pack joined a long tradition of beautiful, bodacious hosts (including a few supermodels) chosen to present the channel’s music news and culturally relevant spin offs. It was once Cindy Crawford, Shalom Harlow, and Amber Valletta’s profession to pal around in the name of House of Style. You’d be forgiven for assuming that Serena Altschul was just another supermodel before she became a serious broadcast journalist for MTV News. And who could forget the great influencer of club-kid beauty, Club MTV’s Downtown Julie Brown? Here, a look back at the women who made us want our MTV.
