The comings and goings of celebrities are rigorously tracked at airports around the globe, and it’s turning the practice of coordinating a chic plane-ready outfit into high-fashion art. But what about us mere mortals? Well, thanks to street style photographer Jonathan Paciullo, who runs the blog Frenchy Style, and Paris Aéroport, the organization that oversees Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports in Paris, we know that polished airport style is a possibility for all—and we have the photos to prove it.
Earlier in the year, Paris Aéroport came to Paciullo with a novel idea for a photo project: hang out in Charles de Gaulle airport for three months and shoot street style. His final photographs were then printed like banners and hung throughout the airport, sending a message to travelers everywhere that taking that extra moment to swap sweats for sleek leggings is much appreciated. “I thought it would be super hard to find people with good style and who would be open about the project,” he admitted, “but in the end, it wasn’t so difficult! I was really surprised. Did you know some people change outfits before landing?!”
During the several weeks Paciullo was posted up in the Parisian terminals, he saw Birkin bags, Chanel sneakers, and Fendi backpacks. It’s not all about brand names, though—many of the subjects in his photographs elevate everyday items like leather jackets, skinny jeans, and bright outerwear. See a selection of Paciullo’s photos from the project in the slideshow above—may they inspire your end-of-summer travel style. After all, you never know when a photographer might be on the prowl!
